JDRF’s Western New York Walk to Cure Diabetes is held annually in June. The one-mile walk takes place the first Sunday in June at Martin’s Fantasy Island in Grand Island, NY. People from across the area walk in support Juvenile (type 1) Diabetes and raise money to fund research for a cure. Last year’s walk raised a whopping $829,000 for research. The WNY chapter is the only chapter to hold the walk at an amusement park. Walkers receive free entrance to the park. Any walker who raises $200 or more receives a ride pass for free. Raising $100 gets you a discounted ride pass for $10. Generous local sponsors provide hot dogs, chips, drinks and snacks for hungry walkers. The walk is held rain or shine. While some year’s it has rained, and others the sun has shone, we always have a great time supporting a great cause!
Team Liam has participated in the walk since 2002. Since then we have raised over $250,000 for a cure! Each year family and friends join us to walk, raise money and afterwards celebrate our accomplishment having fun in the park. Each Team Liam walker receives a special Team Liam t-shirt. In 2006, the middle school students from Nativity of Our Lord School joined us in walking and raising money for research. Come join in the fun with us this year on Saturday, June 5th!
